Spiritual Cancer?

Meditate on cancer…in the body and mind.

And a final word to you arrogant rich: Take some lessons in lament. You’ll need buckets for the tears when the crash comes upon you. Your money is corrupt and your fine clothes stink. Your greedy luxuries are a cancer in your gut, destroying your life from within. You thought you were piling up wealth. What you’ve piled up is judgment. James 5:1-3 The Message (MSG)

Cancer is second highest cause of death in the United States.

What about Spiritual Cancer? Greedy luxuries destroy life.

So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don't be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Colossians 3:5

You don’t get wormy apples off a healthy tree, nor good apples off a diseased tree. The health of the apple tells the health of the tree. You must begin with your own life-giving lives. It’s who you are, not what you say and do, that counts. Your true being brims over into true words and deeds. Luke 6:43-45

Spiritual cancer from poor decisions, like choosing to be greedy. Greed is actually related to covetousness. That is one of the big ten commands. Coveting what other people have…money. That is greed.

You must not covet your neighbor's house. You must not covet your neighbor's wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor. Exodus 20:17

Greed is a spiritual issue. Is this a spiritual cancer?

Prayer ~ Lord, help us not to be greedy; not to be filled with spiritual cancer that keeps us from pleasing You.
