What is Accidental…Unintentional?

For a guilt offering, you must bring to the priest your own ram with no defects, or you may buy one of equal value. Through this process the priest will purify you from your unintentional sin, making you right with the LORD, and you will be forgiven. Leviticus 5:18

The third leading cause of death in the United States is Unintentional Injury…Accidents. Can an “accident” happen spiritually…an unintentional injury that results in spiritual death? We make decisions daily, moment by moment, that direct us down one path or another. At times we choose to follow God’s plan, His will, or we willfully turn our backs on Him. Can one innocently disregard wise choices? Peer pressure may encourage someone to make poor choices. I know that happened to me. I made some poor choices and got away with them at the time. Shoplifting, for example. It was just a little book on chess of all things…and some tweezers. But I could have gotten thrown in jail. “Friends” challenging friends to do wrong…just to do it. Teenage pranks. What kind of “friends” were those people? Did that injury to my soul result in spiritual death? At that point in time I already believed in Jesus as my Savior. For that particular action I confessed my sin…and God forgave me—but I’m sure it is written down in a book somewhere and will result in less jewels in my crown. Did it ever result in good? How often do you say that God uses everything for His good?
The Holy Spirit helps us...in our weakness.
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don't know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
Romans 8:26-29
Even “mistakes” can be used for good, but we shouldn’t make “mistakes” just willy-nilly and expect God to make everything OK—to use it for His good. Even as adults we need to choose our friends wisely and make responsible decisions that honor God. Spiritual death is a real thing—not accidental. Choices are important. Below are the words that the Lord gave to Moses for the children of Israel. I think they apply to us today.
"Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the LORD, you will live long in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob." Deuteronomy 30:19-20
Choose life—spiritual life. Live long with the Lord in His promised land that He has sworn to give to you.

Prayer ~ Lord, You said…"Your injury is incurable—a terrible wound. There is no one to help you or to bind up your injury. No medicine can heal you." Jeremiah 30:12-13. If this is a spiritual injury, is it accidental? You are all powerful…and can heal any injury whether it is physical or spiritual, intentionally or unintentional. Forgive me, Lord, for not putting my trust totally in You. You have given me a choice between life and death. I choose life—life eternally with You.
