Temple of God

Model of the Temple in Jerusalem.
How are you like a temple?
Do you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17

The Temple built by Solomon in Jerusalem was the earthly house of God. His meeting place with mankind. The inner room of the Temple contained the Holy of Holies—with the Ark of the Covenant.

Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the house, to the Holy of Holies, under the wings of the cherubim. 2 Chronicles 5:7

Only one priest actually met with God once a year in that Holy place. That priest had to be pure and holy—and then just to be sure a gold rope was tied around his leg so that if God found him unholy and he died, then he could be pulled out. Holiness is unto the Lord. Honor the LORD for the glory of His name. Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness. Psalm 29:2.

Be holy. This is what the Lord requires of us. He makes us holy—but it is our choice—our free will to choose to be holy. God is a gentleman. He won't force us to do anything, although this scripture passage tells us that God will destroy anyone who destroys His temple. What a promise—destruction. We are His temple How do you choose to respond to His offer of Holiness?

Prayer ~ Lord God, You are awesome and holy. Cleanse me and make me pure. Fill me with your holiness.
