And the Lord will continually guide you, and
satisfy your desire in scorched places, and give strength to your bones; and
you will be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water whose waters do
not fail. Isaiah 58:11

Do you want someone to show you the way…or
are you stubborn and not only won’t ask for directions, but think you can
figure out the way to go all on your own? Does this apply to you in everyday
living or just when you are traveling? How about your spiritual life? Do you
need some guidance there? I sure do. I’ll take all the guidance and direction I
can get. There may be times when I don’t so readily accept what is given to me,
with my stubborn and rebellious attitude. But it is justified and God knows
what I need—direction that points away from rebellion.
Great
is the Lord, and greatly to be praised…. For such is God, Our God forever and
ever; He will guide us until death. Psalm 48:1, 14.
We have to be careful about taking
scripture out of context. I keep reminding myself of that…and then I see just
what I’m looking for…but is it what the Lord intended? There are nuggets of
wisdom and guidance hidden throughout scripture. We have to look at the big
picture—we have to know God in order to know if what we are reading is what He
wants us to apply to our lives. In Psalm 48 the sons of Korah wrote about the
city of Jerusalem, where God’s Holy Temple is—where God can be praised and
worshipped. But again may I remind you…and myself…that we don’t have to be in
church or in Jerusalem to worship and praise the Lord. Try it right where you
are—right now. Offer Him praise and thanksgiving. Are you in a scorched place?
Is it hot…or have you just come through some fire or medical procedure that
feels like it is burning bad cells out of you? Then look to the Lord for
strength for your bones…for all your body.
Prayer
~ Lord, Thank You for continually guiding me, my family, friends and neighbors,
satisfying our desires even when we feel like we’re in a scorching hot place.
Please give strength to our bones and our whole bodies. May we feel Your grace
like living water pouring over our souls, refreshing us—for Your love never
fails. 1 Corinthians 13:8.
