I
n this classic text God was
speaking to Solomon. Solomon had just finished building the Temple as a home
for God, consecrated it and spent a week of offering sacrifices to God to
celebrate the goodness that God had shown to the people of Israel. It was incredible
that when Solomon finished praying (see 2 Chronicles 6:12-42), God sent fire
down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and sacrifices…and the glory
of the Lord filled the Temple. There were so many animals sacrificed during the
dedication that it took a whole week to offer up those 142,000 animals.
Amazing. God heard Solomon’s prayer with the first sacrifice. Likewise, He hears our prayers. Prayer is
nothing other than talking to God. In this scripture passage we are shown the
requirements for God’s blessing: humble ourselves, pray, devotion as we seek God, and
repentance. So we need to humbly repent and prayerfully seek God. He has promised
to hear our prayers. We don’t have to offer blood sacrifices. God showed David
that what He wants…
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O
God, Thou will not despise. Psalm 51:17.

Where is your heart? How is your prayer life with
God? Are you trusting Him to hear and answer your prayers?
Prayer
~ Thank You, Lord, for Your promise to hear my prayers. I am humble before
You…as I seek Your face and wait patiently for Your answers.
