Why Don’t You Talk to Me?

He took Jesus back into the headquarters again and asked him, "Where are you from?" But Jesus gave no answer. "Why don't you talk to me?" Pilate demanded. "Don't you realize that I have the power to release you or crucify you?"
Then Jesus said, "You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above. So the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin." John 19:9-11 NLT

Jesus didn’t want to talk to Pilate…but when power became the issue, He acquiesced. He knew the power for the decision to crucify Him was not up to Pilate—God the Father had already made that decision. He had given up His Son for the sin of the world. Talking wasn’t going to solve Pilate’s problem of what to do with Jesus. At least Pilate was astute enough to realize that Jesus was not of this world—Jerusalem, Capernaum, Nazareth, Bethlehem, Israel, the Roman Empire, planet earth—those were not His home. He didn’t come from, nor was He going to return to any of those places. "Where are you from?" "Why don't you talk to me?"  Do you ever ask someone questions and they just don’t answer? It can be so infuriating. When you ask God questions—do you feel like He doesn’t hear you? Pray…keep on praying. Read His Word and listen. Listen to what He tells you in the Scripture. Listen to what He keeps telling you over and over until you get it. Sometimes He speaks through pastors, preachers, Christian friends or Christian authors who give guidance—but sometimes you must just listen for a still small voice. Guiding you. Check whatever you hear or read with scripture to be sure that it is God speaking to you.

RSVP: Jesus is talking to you. Are you listening? How will you respond to Him today?

Prayer ~Dear God, You spoke to Job in a whirlwind—and reminded him that You have all power over life and death. Like Job, I pray…I know that You can do all things, and that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted. Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. Job 42:2-3. You are an awesome God. You are my God and I will listen when You speak.
