What is Truth?

"What is truth?" Pilate asked. Then he went out again to the people and told them, "He is not guilty of any crime. But you have a custom of asking me to release one prisoner each year at Passover. Would you like me to release this 'King of the Jews'?"
But they shouted back, "No! Not this man. We want Barabbas!" (Barabbas was a revolutionary.)
John 18:38-40 NLT

Pilate was asking Jesus…"What is truth?" But he didn’t stick around for any answer or discussion. Jesus had already told him that He came to tell the truth. If Pilate had listened to any of Jesus earlier teaching, he would have known that Jesus claimed to “be” the truth. Jesus said…"I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. John 14:6.

Such a philosophical question. We still ask that today.  "What is truth?" What would you say to that question? It is the absence of falsehood. It is fact or reality. It’s the real thing. Did Pilate get his answer? He wasn’t expecting the crowd to want Barabbas set free…or for them to begin to chant, “Crucify Him” in regards to Jesus. Mob rule. The crowd went along with the wishes of the Pharisees. Crucify Him. Jesus was King of the Jews…but not in a political way that would have rescued the Israelites from Roman oppression. He came as a spiritual King. How do you respond to political pressure? Would you have chanted with the crowd, “Crucify Him”? The plan was set. Jesus was to be crucified to fulfill God’s plan that He should give His life so that everyone could be offered eternal life—to have their sin removed as they were washed in His blood. Spiritually. That is truth.

RSVP: How will you respond to the fact that Jesus was crucified for you? Will you share that revelation with others?

Prayer ~ Jesus, Lamb of God. You have taken away the sin of the world—even mine. I praise You.
