So the soldiers, their commanding officer, and the Temple guards arrested Jesus and tied him up. First they took him to Annas, the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest at that time. Caiaphas was the one who had told the other Jewish leaders, "It's better that one man should die for the people." John 18:12-14 NLT
It is better that one man should die for the people. Better than what? Better than say twelve men dying? Or better than all of a city dying? Better than what? Better than me or you dying for others' sins or mistakes? Jesus was arrested and bound with ropes. With His Power He could have broken those ropes--easily. That wasn't the plan. He was obedient to His Father's plan for Him to go to the cross. He was respectful to those who arrested Him. He didn't fight or try to run away. What would you do in a similar situation?
RSVP: Jesus' example to us is obedience to His Father. He wants us to follow His example--of obedience, kindness, goodness, and love. How will you respond to Him today?
Prayer ~ Jesus, is it better for one man to die for others? Our Heavenly Father thinks so. Thank you for being willing to be that man...and rescuing us from an eternity of darkness.
