Obedience Doesn’t Involve the Sword

Then Simon Peter drew a sword and slashed off the right ear of Malchus, the high priest's slave. But Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword back into its sheath. Shall I not drink from the cup of suffering the Father has given me?"  John 18:10-11 NLT

Bold, impulsive Peter cut off the guy’s ear! Whoa—that must have hurt! In the account of this written in the book of Luke it says…And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear. But Jesus answered and said, "Stop! No more of this." And He touched his ear and healed him. Luke 22:50-51.  Ever compassionate—Jesus healed the man’s ear. Jesus command was for Peter to put away his sword. Jesus Himself wasn’t carrying a sword—did He ever? He was being obedient to His Father—He didn’t need a sword to defend Himself. He was going to the cross, willingly and obediently. Do we ever go into hostile situations willingly and obediently? Put your sword away—whatever it is with which you fight—harsh words or mean looks. Go obediently to the Lord to do His will.

RSVP: Jesus is calling us today to put away our swords—our offensive weapons—and be obedient to our Heavenly Father. How will you respond to Him today?

Prayer ~ Jesus, may we all heed Your words and stop what we are doing if it offensive to You. Peter was impulsive and protective. If we’re going to be protective of You, may our words and actions draw others to You and not provoke or harm them.
