I Am Trusting God to Save Me

Prayer – Lord, just when I think everything is OK—peace, peace. But there is no peace—not in the world and not with some of my friends…overwhelmed with troubles. Give us strength to face our anxieties and help us to listen to others. They need a listening ear, just like I need You to listen to me. Thank You Lord that You have not only promised to never leave us or forsake us…but You have promised to hear our prayers.

Dancing and calling on the Lord.
In the streets of Jerusalem.
Israel.
Listen to my prayer, O God. Do not ignore my cry for help! Please listen and answer me, for I am overwhelmed by my troubles. My enemies shout at me, making loud and wicked threats. They bring trouble on me and angrily hunt me down. My heart pounds in my chest. The terror of death assaults me. Fear and trembling overwhelm me, and I can't stop shaking. Oh, that I had wings like a dove; then I would fly away and rest! I would fly far away to the quiet of the wilderness. How quickly I would escape—far from this wild storm of hatred. Confuse them, Lord, and frustrate their plans, for I see violence and conflict in the city. Its walls are patrolled day and night against invaders, but the real danger is wickedness within the city. Everything is falling apart; threats and cheating are rampant in the streets. It is not an enemy who taunts me—I could bear that. It is not my foes who so arrogantly insult me—I could have hidden from them. Instead, it is you—my equal, my companion and close friend. What good fellowship we once enjoyed as we walked together to the house of God. Let death stalk my enemies; let the grave swallow them alive, for evil makes its home within them. But I will call on God, and the LORD will rescue me. Morning, noon, and night I cry out in my distress, and the LORD hears my voice. He ransoms me and keeps me safe from the battle waged against me, though many still oppose me. God, who has ruled forever, will hear me and humble them. For my enemies refuse to change their ways; they do not fear God. As for my companion, he betrayed his friends; he broke his promises. His words are as smooth as butter, but in his heart is war. His words are as soothing as lotion, but underneath are daggers! Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. But you, O God, will send the wicked down to the pit of destruction. Murderers and liars will die young, but I am trusting you to save me. Psalm 55:1-23

Meditate. Consider God’s promises in scripture. Read God’s word and listen to what He is saying.

Listening is important. A very wise and encouraging friend of our who died three years ago once said…If you do all the talking, you can’t hear others. He was stressing the importance of listening to others. How can we learn, understand, or empathize with anyone if we are running off our own mouth? He was so --wise. He probably learned that by quietly listening to someone else! It’s a great gift…listening. It can give you peace.

I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid. John 14:27

We have God’s promise that He will hear our prayers. Consider the wisdom in these verses found in Proverbs.

The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking; the mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words. The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayers of the righteous. A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health. If you listen to constructive criticism, you will be at home among the wise. If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself; but if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding. Fear of the LORD teaches wisdom; humility precedes honor. Proverbs 15:28-33

I am listening to God’s words. Are you? Have you accepted Jesus as your savior? We don’t know what tomorrow holds for us—so choose wisely today. At the beginning of His ministry, Jesus told those listening to Him to repent…to turn away from their sinful ways. He was obedient to His Father by going to the cross—sacrificing His life for our sins. Are you listening to Him now? He gives us direction, encouragement, and hope among all the blessings He bestows. Just like David wisely wrote in this Psalm today…I am trusting in God to save me.

Verses of Salvation ~ We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Romans 5:3-5

Memory Verse of the Week ~ Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.  Matthew 6:33

Did you memorize this verse this week? Are you seeking God…and living righteously?
