God Has a Purpose for Everyone. What is Yours?

Prayer – Lord, show me something new in Your scripture today. Something that I can apply to my life and give You glory and honor. Thank You that You have a plan and a purpose for my life.

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until the danger passes by. I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me. He will send help from heaven to rescue me, disgracing those who hound me. My God will send forth his unfailing love and faithfulness. I am surrounded by fierce lions who greedily devour human prey—whose teeth pierce like spears and arrows, and whose tongues cut like swords. Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens! May your glory shine over all the earth. My enemies have set a trap for me. I am weary from distress. They have dug a deep pit in my path, but they themselves have fallen into it. My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident. No wonder I can sing your praises! Wake up, my heart! Wake up, O lyre and harp! I will wake the dawn with my song. I will thank you, Lord, among all the people. I will sing your praises among the nations. For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens. Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens. May your glory shine over all the earth. Psalm 57:1-11

Meditate. Consider God’s grace, mercy, and unfailing love.

This Psalm written by David, about the time he fled from Saul and went into a cave (see 1 Samuel 24:3). Once again, we have this picture of God with wings—so that we can hide beneath them and be protected. I love that image. Birds gather their young—and the little ones run to their parents for safety and security. That is just how God will protect us.

Keep reading this Psalm. David is hounded by his enemies—described here as lions. Then he tells God that he is looking confidently to Him for protection and he sings praises to our Lord. Gratefully, David expresses the love and faithfulness that he sees in God. Glory be to God. No wonder God calls David a man after His own heart. David is as faithful to God as God is to David, and to each of us. God had a purpose for David’s life. He has a purpose for each of us, too. What is yours?

Verses of Salvation ~ So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don't be ashamed of me, either, even though I'm in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News. For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time--to show us his grace through Christ Jesus. And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News. 2 Timothy 1:8-10

Memory Verse of the Week ~ Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. Colossians 3:16
