Prayer – Lord, I continually stand in awe of You—of Your creation, Your strength and power, Your forgiveness, the hope that You provide, and the joy and love that You so generously provide. You are awesome. You are love…and You are loved.
What mighty praise, O God, belongs to you in Zion. We
will fulfill our vows to you, for you answer our prayers. All of us must come
to you. Though we are overwhelmed by our sins, you forgive them all. What joy
for those you choose to bring near, those who live in your holy courts. What
festivities await us inside your holy Temple. You faithfully answer our prayers
with awesome deeds, O God our savior. You are the hope of everyone on earth,
even those who sail on distant seas. You formed the mountains by your power and
armed yourself with mighty strength. You quieted the raging oceans with their
pounding waves and silenced the shouting of the nations. Those who live at the
ends of the earth stand in awe of your wonders. From where the sun rises to
where it sets, you inspire shouts of joy. You take care of the earth and water
it, making it rich and fertile. The river of God has plenty of water; it
provides a bountiful harvest of grain, for you have ordered it so. You drench
the plowed ground with rain, melting the clods and leveling the ridges. You
soften the earth with showers and bless its abundant crops. You crown the year
with a bountiful harvest; even the hard pathways overflow with abundance. The
grasslands of the wilderness become a lush pasture, and the hillsides blossom
with joy. The meadows are clothed with flocks of sheep, and the valleys are
carpeted with grain. They all shout and sing for joy! Psalm 65:1-13 Hollyhocks in Israel
The hillsides bloom with joy.
Meditate. Are you feeling the joy of the Lord?
This Psalm gives such hope and joy—David isn’t asking God
to defend him against his enemies! Hurrah! As David recognized the qualities of
God, it once again impresses on my heart how good God is. He provides
abundantly for us all—whether we are farmers or just backyard gardeners.
Although I will admit that my garden hasn’t been too productive this year. That
is due wonderful shade from the trees I longed to have—but now give too much
shade to the raised vegetable beds. Also, productivity was stifled because of a
long early vacation that separated me from my gardening efforts! Now the garden
is beginning to produce and the cooler weather is not encouraging much growth.
Jalapenos are looking good! More hot stuff to be cooked up in my kitchen soon!
God answers prayer—for David and for us. Are you keeping
track of your prayer requests and the answers to those prayers? That is one certain
way to see how God is working in your life. Just take a blank piece of paper or
notebook and start writing down what you request of God, the date you made the
appeal, and then note the date…and maybe the way…that God answered your prayer.
I can almost guarantee that as you review your answered prayer list you will
see remarkable things. Do you stand in awe of God’s wonders?
