Why Should I Be Afraid?

Prayer – Lord, You’ve taught us not to worry and to have no fear, but when someone falls or things go bump in the night—our hearts are racing! NO fear. You are always with us…You will never leave us or forsake us as promised in Deuteronomy 31. I claim that promise often for myself, my family and friends. We can put our trust in You—what a comfort and assurance. Thank you so much.

Could tears have been colllected in it?
O God, have mercy on me, for people are hounding me. My foes attack me all day long. I am constantly hounded by those who slander me, and many are boldly attacking me. But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? They are always twisting what I say; they spend their days plotting to harm me. They come together to spy on me—watching my every step, eager to kill me. Don't let them get away with their wickedness; in your anger, O God, bring them down. You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book. My enemies will retreat when I call to you for help. This I know: God is on my side! I praise God for what he has promised; yes, I praise the LORD for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? I will fulfill my vows to you, O God, and will offer a sacrifice of thanks for your help. For you have rescued me from death; you have kept my feet from slipping. So now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light. Psalm 56:1-13 (Emphasis underlined.)

Meditate. Consider what you fear. Read God’s word and listen to what He is saying.

David wrote this Psalm, regarding the time the Philistines seized him in Gath. That poor man. David’s enemies were always chasing him…always plotting to kill him. He was afraid…but he put his trust in the Lord God. Here he is telling us that God collects our tears and keeps them in a bottle. With the huge number of tears that must have shed by mankind throughout history, that has got to be an enormous jar!

When I was growing up a friend of my Mom’s was very afraid to be home alone since her house was a couple of miles out of town and there were no nearby neighbors. Very similar to our family’s situation out on the farm. I remember overhearing my folks discussing this friend’s fear…and Mom saying that if God is for us, who can be against us.

What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Romans 8:31

No need for fear. We never even locked our doors back then! Now is a different story. We are more cautious…and we frequently offer prayers of thanksgiving for our home and the protection that God provides. He is so good and generous with us all. Blessed! Yes, we are indeed blessed to have God caring about us and for us. No slipping and falling—and we are just waiting to be rescued from death…raptured! That event maybe years or only days away. Only God knows for sure. We don’t need to worry, fret, or fear. We can securely walk in God’s presence forever…for His is with us always!  Seek to be in God's presence. Know God the Father and Jesus Christ, His Son--who can be your Savior--just for the asking. Why should I be afraid?

Verses of Salvation ~ When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident. The one thing I ask of the LORD—the thing I seek most—is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD's perfections and meditating in his Temple. Psalm 27:2-4
