More Mourning

Consider these additional verses on mourning.
So put on clothes of mourning and weep with broken hearts, for the fierce anger of the LORD is still upon us.  Jeremiah 4:8

Shave your head in mourning, and weep alone on the mountains. For the LORD has rejected and forsaken this generation that has provoked his fury. Jeremiah 7:29

When this vision came to me, I, Daniel, had been in mourning for three whole weeks.
 Daniel 10:2

Mourning. Special clothes...special customs.  In many places, especially the Southeastern United States, mourning is marked by taking casseroles to the family of the deceased. Food is a necessary component of grief.  Close family, deep in their sadness may not feel like eating...or may just forget to eat. Eating is necessary to life. Oh sure, you can go forty days without eating, but what is the point of causing another death? The family probably has enough stress dealing with one loss. Eat.
Often the eating is done after the funeral or memorial service--but even long before that casseroles may cover the dining room table. David fasted while his son was sick and when he was told that his son had died, David ate a good meal. The time for fasting and prayer was over. He had hope of his son recovering and focused his efforts on prayer and fasting. His mourning was before his son died.

Pray as you mourn.
Daniel was not mourning the loss of a person--but humbling himself before God by fasting and praying for future events that had been revealed to him in a vision. Do you ever mourn for future events? Jesus tells us not to worry. Is worry a form of mourning?

Prayer ~ Dear Jesus, help us not to worry about events that might take place or about things that have been predicted. Please don't reject us or bring your fury upon us. There are those in this generation, this country, who have rejected You, Lord, and may bring your fury on them. Be merciful to those of us who love and respect You.
