Meditate on
the risk of love and death.
And why should we ourselves risk our lives
hour by hour? For I swear, dear brothers and sisters, that I face death daily.
This is as certain as my pride in what Christ Jesus our Lord has done in you.
And what value was there in fighting wild beasts--those people of Ephesus--if
there will be no resurrection from the dead? And if there is no resurrection,
"Let's feast and drink, for tomorrow we die!" Don't be fooled by
those who say such things, for "bad company corrupts good character."
Think carefully about what is right, and stop sinning. For to your shame I say
that some of you don't know God at all. 1 Corinthians 15:30-34
There is a risk in everything, every day.
Those “risks” provide us with choices. First thing when I wake up…should I get
out of bed? But I might fall on the way to the bathroom…but if I stay in bed,
my muscles will begin to atrophy and I’ll lose my strength to even get out of
bed. Get up!
There is a risk in knowing and loving God.
To choose to not know Him is pure ignorance, but there are those who chose
that. To know Him and not love Him is another choice. Paul tells us that we are
servants or slaves to whatever, or however we choose to live, by what we obey.
Don't you realize that you become the slave
of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to
death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. Romans
6:16
Think about it. Are you a slave to food…do
you arrange your day by when and what you are going to eat or your next drink? Are you a slave to
your TV…do you live to watch particular shows? Are you a slave to God, choosing
to seek Him first in your life and obeying His Word?
The choice is simple. The risk is ultimate.
Sin leads to death. Eternal death without God. I choose to obey God and look forward to life everlasting after my earthly body dies.
Prayer ~ Lord, my old self has been
crucified with You, Christ. It is no longer I who live, but You who live in
me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in You as the Son of God, who
loved me and gave yourself for me. Galatians 2:20.
Friday’s
Feast at the King’s Table
As usual every
Friday is Feast Day at the King’s
Table. We can’t live on just spiritual food …nor can we live on bread alone. This is
rainy, soup type weather. Tonight we're having my favorite fish taco soup.
Mick’s Fish Taco Soup
Ingredients for 8 servings:
8 corn
tortillas, cut into 1/2 inch strips
Vegetable
oil for frying
Kosher
salt, freshly ground black pepper and chili powder
2
pounds fish fillets, red snapper or cod is a good choice
¼ tsp
cumin powder, or more if desired
2
tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2
limes, juiced, plus lime wedges for garnish
1
pablano chili (mild) or serrano chili (if you prefer-hot), chopped
3 cups broth
seasoned with ½ tsp thyme, 2 bay leaves, and one clove chopped garlic
6 cups
boiling water
1 green
onion, sliced, for garnish
4 ripe
tomatoes, cut into chunks, for garnish
2 ripe
avocados, peeled and cut into chunks, for garnish
Cilantro
leaves, for garnish
Directions:
Cut up
the fish into pieces about 1” by 2”, sprinkle with cumin, cover with chopped
chili pepper, drizzle with the lime juice and olive oil and set aside in the
refrigerator to marinate about 15 minutes while you chop the green onion,
tomato, and avocado.
For the tortillas: Heat about 1/4-inch vegetable
oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Cut the tortillas into 1/2-inch
wide strips. Fry the tortilla strips in batches and drain them on paper towels;
season with salt, pepper and chili powder while they are still hot. For the soup: Heat the broth, water and seasonings to boil and simmer until the meat and vegetable are in the bowls. Saute the marinated fish over medium heat for a few minutes, using the lime-oil marinate. Cook just until the fish are no longer raw, but not falling apart. Divide the fish equally into eight servings and place each in the bottom of a large soup bowl. Top with some onion, tomato, avocado, and cilantro leaves. Ladle in the hot broth and squeeze in a lime wedge. Top with tortilla strips. Serve and enjoy.
