Awake and Alert

Now concerning how and when all this will happen, dear brothers and sisters, we don't really need to write you. For you know quite well that the day of the Lord's return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. When people are saying, "Everything is peaceful and secure," then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman's labor pains begin. And there will be no escape. But you aren't in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won't be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief. For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don't belong to darkness and night. So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. Night is the time when people sleep and drinkers get drunk. But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation. For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever. So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. Thessalonians 5:1-11

Awake. Alert. Whether you are dead or alive when Christ return we will live with Him forever. But n
Helmet of Salvation?
the mean time do you have the armor of faith and a helmet of salvation? Paul wrote about those in Ephesians:
A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God's armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God's righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.  Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Ephesians 6:10-17.

Good advice when Paul wrote to the Ephesians and just as appropriate today. We are still in a spiritual battle. We still need to encourage each other. As long as we are awake...we need to be alert. Alert to the forces of evil, silently attacking us day by day. Are you awake and alert?

Prayer ~ Lord Jesus, cover us with Your spiritual armor that we would stand firm against evil strategies; the belt of truth; peaceful shoes; a shield of faith; helmet of salvation and sword of the Spirit. We rely on You to provide for us.
