Memory Verse this week…
Trust
in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek
his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6
Understanding.
One of the greatest examples in the Bible of someone with understanding is King Solomon, son of King David. God gave him
great wisdom and understanding…an understanding heart.
That night the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream,
and God said, "What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!"
Solomon replied, "You showed faithful love to your servant my father,
David, because he was honest and true and faithful to you. And you have
continued your faithful love to him today by giving him a son to sit on his
throne. "Now, O LORD my God, you have made me king instead of my father,
David, but I am like a little child who doesn't know his way around. And here I
am in the midst of your own chosen people, a nation so great and numerous they
cannot be counted! Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your
people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself
is able to govern this great people of yours?" The Lord was pleased that
Solomon had asked for wisdom. So God replied, "Because you have asked for
wisdom in governing my people with justice and have not asked for a long life
or wealth or the death of your enemies-- I will give you what you asked for! I
will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or
ever will have! 1 Kings
3:5-12
The Lord is my shepherd. Sheep grazing in Israel. God provides them with green pastures. |
Jesus
promised to give us anything that we ask for in His name in order to bring
glory to the Father. Glory – glory - glory. Glory be to the Father…and to the
Son…and to the Holy Spirit.
You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do
it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. John 14:13
Solomon asked
for wisdom. In the book of James we are promised that if we need wisdom, just
ask for it…we too will receive it.
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he
will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. James 1:5
I like to
think that God likes to give us what we need. He is generous. The Lord is my shepherd, I have everything I
need. Psalm 23:1. He likes for us to depend on Him. He will provide. Trust
Him. Do you have faith that He will provide?
Prayer
~ Lord Jesus…give us faith like the man named Jabez who was more honorable than
any of his brothers. He prayed to You, God of Israel, "Oh, that you would
bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep
me from all trouble and pain!" And You granted him his request.1
Chronicles 4:9-10. Give us wisdom and understanding.
