The fishermen that Jesus recruited at the beginning of His ministry were
Simon Peter, his brother Andrew, the sons of Zebedee, James and John. Now we
have seven disciples, three of whom were the original fishermen, going fishing.
Did Thomas, Nathanael and the two unnamed disciples know how to fish? Probably.
Fishing was a common practice—lots of people fished then…and now. Simon Peter
decided to go back to fishing and his friends came along. It must have been a
good sized boat to hold the seven men while they were casting their nets to
catch fish. But they caught nothing. Nada. Not one fish. How disappointing. How
often have you gone fishing and not caught anything?
RSVP: Jesus saw Simon Peter and the disciples going
back to their old profession—fishing. They didn’t catch anything. He’s asking
what you’ve caught for Him lately. How will you respond to Him today?
Prayer ~ Jesus, help me, my family
and friends to catch something for You—to catch someone—as fishers of men.
