Meditate.
Come and redeem me; free me from my enemies. …Erase their names from the Book of Life; don't let them be counted among the righteous. Psalm 69:18, 28
David wrote about the Book of Life. Likely he, along with other Jews, was following the festivals or feasts that God gave to Moses as decreed in Leviticus 23:23-25 and Numbers 29:1-6. As the Jews celebrate The Feast of Trumpets, it is their tradition that everyone’s words, deeds and thoughts are recorded by God in the Book of Life which is opened and examined by Him. Their view is that if the good deeds outweigh the sinful ones that the person’s name will be written in the Book for another year on Yom Kippur, the day of the New Year. During the time between the Feast of Trumpets and Yom Kippur people can repent of their sins and hopefully increase their chances of their name being written in the Book. This is a tradition that is even followed today. A common greeting among the Jews is to say “May you be inscribed in the Book of Life for a good year.” The righteous ones will have their names written in the Book of Life…and David didn’t want his enemies’ names recorded in that Book. We know that the Book of Life is meant only for those who believe in Jesus as their Savior—as Jesus, the Lamb of God.
It is
prophesied that at the end of time those whose names are written in the book…the
Book of Life…will be rescued—saved from a time of tribulation.
At that time Michael, the archangel who
stands guard over your nation, will arise. Then there will be a time of anguish
greater than any since nations first came into existence. But at that time
every one of your people whose name is written in the book will be rescued. Daniel
12:1
This Book of
Life, or the Lamb’s Book of Life, is recorded in Revelation 21.
And I saw the holy city, the new
Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed
for her husband. ... Nothing evil will be allowed to enter, nor anyone who
practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty—but only those whose names are
written in the Lamb's Book of Life. Revelation 21:2, 27
Is your name
written in the Lamb’s Book of Life?
All who believe in the Son of God know
in their hearts that this testimony is true. Those who don't believe this are
actually calling God a liar because they don't believe what God has testified
about his Son. And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal
life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does
not have God's Son does not have life. 1 John 5:10-12
Believe and be saved.
Prayer ~ Lord
God, time is growing short…I believe in You. As You give me opportunities to
reach just one more person for You—may they believe and be saved. All praise to
You, God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by Your great mercy that
we have been born again, because You, God, raised Jesus Christ from the dead.
Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance
that is kept in heaven for us, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change
and decay. And through our faith in You, You are protecting us by Your power
until we receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day
for all to see. From 1 Peter 1:3-5
Verse of Salvation ~ But I keep praying to you, LORD, hoping this time you will show me favor. In your unfailing love, O God, answer my prayer with your sure salvation. Psalm 69:13
Friday’s Feasting at the King’s
Table
We can’t live on bread alone—we need something to spread on bread or crackers. Try this Hot Pepper Jelly. I recently made some with jalapenos from my garden.
Hot Pepper Jam or Relish
2 green bell peppers
2 red bell peppers
8 large jalapeno peppers
½ cup apple cider vinegar
½ cup water
3 cups sugar
1 box of Less Sugar Sure Jell Pectin
Wash 6 jelly jars in hot soapy water and sterilize in boiling water for 5 minutes. Drain.
Fill a canning kettle with a rack, half-full or with water to cover the jars by 1-2 inches of water. Heat to boiling. Heat canning lids in a small amount of water and simmer until ready to use.
Measure the sugar. In a separate bowl use ¼ cup of the measured sugar and stir in the pectin.
Finely chop the peppers, and measure so that you have 1½ cups each red and green peppers and 1 cup of jalapenos. This can be done easily with a food processor.
Mix the peppers with the vinegar and water. Stir in the sugar-pectin mixture. Bring to a boil. Add the remaining sugar. On High, bring the mixture to a full rolling boil, stirring constantly. Boil for exactly 1 minute. Remove from heat. Skim off any foam.
Ladle into the warm jelly jars, filling to ¼ inch of the top of each jar. Wipe the tops of the jars with a clean towel or paper towel. Top with the canning lid and screw the lids on tightly. Lower the jars onto the rack of the canning kettle. Cover and boil gently for 10 minutes. Remove and place upright on a towel to cool completely. You should hear a ping of the jars sealing as they cool. When they are completely cool test to see if they are sealed by pressing on the lid. If the jar is sealed, it will not spring back. If not sealed, the jar will need to be refrigerated and used within 3 weeks. If sealed, store in a cool dry place for up to 1 year.
