Promise
appears 118 times in the New Living Translation. Promises, plural, appears 51 times. God gave a lot of promises—all through
the Bible. Promises. That is what this blog is going to focus on during 2017.
We’ve just been through the Christmas season and once again experienced the
greatest promise and gift that God has given mankind. Jesus Christ—God’s only
Son—who was given as a sacrificial offering for the sins of people through all
time all around the world. The ultimate gift. Death for life. For eternal life.
The scripture passage above written by Paul in Second Corinthians tells us that
all
of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ…. Promises for the
forgiveness of ours sin, for an everlasting Savior, for peace, joy, hope
wisdom, and love. Above all love is the key to the fulfillment of God’s promises—for
God is Love.
The Cross - a Symbol of Christ's Sacrifice |
Dear friends, let us continue to love one
another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows
God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
God showed how much He loved us by sending His one and only Son into the world
so that we might have eternal life through Him. This is real love—not that we
loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away
our sins. 1 John 4:7-10.
Do you know God? Do you know His Son, Jesus
Christ? Make it a goal for yourself for 2017 to know more of God and to develop
a stronger relationship with Him. That is my goal.
Prayer
~ Lord God, continue to show us more of Your love and promises that You have
for each of us. We praise You and give You glory for all that You do and
provide for us—especially for the forgiveness of our sin—and for the eternal
life that You so uniquely planned so that we will have fellowship with You
forever.
