Promise with a Rainbow Covenant

"Yes, I am confirming my covenant with you. Never again will floodwaters kill all living creatures; never again will a flood destroy the earth." Then God said, "I am giving you a sign of my covenant with you and with all living creatures, for all generations to come. I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth. When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds, and I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures. Never again will the floodwaters destroy all life. When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth." Then God said to Noah, "Yes, this rainbow is the sign of the covenant I am confirming with all the creatures on earth." Genesis 9:11-17

What does a rainbow look like from above? Does God see the same rainbow that we see here on earth? When we were flying back from the big island of Hawaii in March 2011, I looked down and saw a rainbow beneath us. It was awesome to be above the rainbow…like in the song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” way up high. I’ve searched high and low, but I don’t seem to have a photo of that rainbow—just take my word for it…it was beautiful. Vivid colors. To me rainbows are a reminder of God’s promise—just as He intended. What do rainbows signify to you…to your family and friends? Have you ever asked them?

This was an important covenant that God made with mankind…and all earthly creatures. No flood to wipe everyone and everything out again. God’s greatest love…to keep these wretched creatures that He made in spite of their evil ways. He’s promised not to wipe us out. The end times are coming and everyone will have to face up to the errors of their ways—to be responsible for their own actions. Does everyone realize that? No matter when we live, it matter HOW we chose to live. Choice is important. God made His choice…His promise. We need to consider what our choice is and by that what we are promising to do. What is on your list today?

Prayer ~ Lord God, Thank You for Your beautiful rainbows and the promise that You won’t destroy us with a world-wide flood. I haven’t seen a rainbow when it snows…does that happen? But it is amazing to see the glistening snowflakes shining in the sunlight and even drops of water clinging to leaves and trees reflecting dazzling tiny prisms of rainbows—reminding me of Your promise and Your creative glory. You are amazing.
