Promise of A Helper

Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him." Genesis 2:18

God created a helper for Adam when He created Eve. “I will” He said and He did it. God saw the need for a companion for man. Paul, writing in First Corinthians, points out that woman was made for man…not man for woman. For the first man didn't come from woman, but the first woman came from man. And man was not made for woman, but woman was made for man. 1 Corinthians 11:8-9.

As we wander through life we may find that we feel alone sometimes…even when we are in a room full of people. How can that be? It may just be our own choice to isolate ourselves…but there is something that makes us feel complete. I’ve met many people throughout my life that I felt like I already knew. It seems to me that it was the Holy Spirit in them recognizing the Holy Spirit in me that created that bond. The lonely feeling’s gone. That must be how Adam felt—that absence of loneliness. Can you imagine the joy that he must have felt? Someone with whom he could continuously communicate—someone to share meals, stories and the joys of living in The Garden. Someone that he could impart the knowledge that God had given him.

Prayer ~ Lord God, Thank You that You promised a helper for Adam. Your design and the creation of the helpmate, the companion for Adam…and for each of us…is wonderful. Provide helpmates or companions for those who are feeling lonely so they don’t have to be alone, unless they choose solitude. You have promised to be with us, and with the Holy Spirit within us we never have to feel abandoned. Guide us in all we think, say and do that we would live in a way that honors You as our creator.
