There is a song in the old “South Pacific”
movie with lyrics by Rogers and Hammerstein that say we must be carefully
taught. They basically had the right idea—children, as well as adults—have to
be taught.
You’ve Got to be Carefully Taught
You've got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.
The words go on to say that we have to
learn to hate those our relatives hate. That’s not hard to pick up. Children
follow their parents’ example so easily. Watch what you teach your children!
The Holy Spirit teaches us. I love that He
combines spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. In the Greek it is pneumatikos as listed in the Strong’s
Lexicon. It emanates from the Divine Spirit. The
thoughts aren’t just thoughts—but He puts His thoughts into words that our
brains can understand. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. Are you open
to His teachings? How will you know His thoughts? If we read God’s Word—does it
confirm the thoughts we are thinking? Think about it.
Prayer
~ Holy Spirit, teach me with Your thoughts that I would understand You more
fully.
