Can you visualize God with feathers? Some
people like to debate whethere God is male or female—but do they see Him as
birdlike? There are several allegories in scripture.
·
Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, that hovers over its young, He
(God) spread His wings and caught them, He carried them on His pinions. Deuteronomy
32:11.
·
He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you may seek
refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark. Psalm 91:4.
·
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are
sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen
gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling. Matthew 23:37.
It will be exciting to see God, face to
face when we get to Heaven. But when that day is, only God the Father knows for
sure. One thing we can count on, one promise to claim from the verse in Psalm
36 is that we can “take refuge” in God. We can count on him to protect us…to
shelter us from the storms of life. That is a tremendous promise. Life isn’t
going to be easy just because we trust Jesus as our Savior and rely on the Holy
Spirit to guide and direct us. But in those unsure and stormy times we can
count on God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—to gather us to Himself and we can be
sure that He loves us. Love is powerful. His lovingkindness is greater than any
human love—stronger than any spiritual force that may try to influence us. God’s
love is pure, kind, gentle, not self-seeking. Remember the verse from
Philippians. Think on it when you are tempted to do wrong, unsure of others
motives, or wavering in your faith. Finally,
brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever
is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any
excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. - Philippians
4:8.
Prayer
~ Your lovingkindness is all I want in life, Lord. Shower Your blessings on me,
my family and my friends as we take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.
