So would the Israelites have listened to
Joshua if he hadn’t been filled with the Spirit? The Spirit of Wisdom…the Holy Spirit.
When Moses laid his hands on Joshua, he was filled with the Holy Spirit and became
the new leader of the Israelites. The Bible records him as a great leader…the
one who took the Israelites into the Promised Land and notoriously marched them
around the city of Jericho until the walls fell down. Everyone in the city died
except Rahab and her family, since she had helped the Israelite spies earlier. Rahab
becomes a part of Jesus’ lineage as the mother of Boaz (see the Book of Ruth). The
Israelites listened to Joshua, who God certainly richly blessed with wisdom. He
was obedient. Do we follow God’s leading when He tells us to do something? Of
course we’re not doing something as great as marching about 40,000 warriors (see
Joshua 4:13) around a walled city covering about 6 acres. So where have you
walked lately?
Prayer
~ Holy Spirit, guide my steps and fill me with Your wisdom like that of Joshua
that I can serve You in a might way.
