Do You See the Hand Writing on the Wall?

When King Belshazzar saw the hand writing on the wall… The queen entered the banquet hall because of the words of the king and his nobles; the queen spoke and said, "O king, live forever! Do not let your thoughts alarm you or your face be pale. There is a man in your kingdom in whom is a spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father, illumination, insight and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him. And King Nebuchadnezzar, your father, your father the king, appointed him chief of the magicians, conjurers, Chaldeans and diviners. This was because an extraordinary spirit, knowledge and insight, interpretation of dreams, explanation of enigmas and solving of difficult problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Let Daniel now be summoned and he will declare the interpretation." Daniel 5:10-12

Even non-believers can recognize when a person is filled with the Holy Spirit—the Spirit of God. Daniel had done some pretty amazing things like revealing King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and its interpretation when the king’s own sorcerers couldn’t. Daniel was blessed with the wisdom and knowledge from God so that he could tell the king the contents of his dream…and then the interpretation. Later Daniel also told the king the interpretation of another of his dreams—providing insight into the future of King Nebuchadnezzar’s reign. It wasn’t a pleasant prediction, but that is life…not always fun. We can be assured that even if we know God, our lives will not be perfect—but God has promised that He will never leave us or forsake us. He’ll be with us no matter what happens in our lives. Things didn’t go well for King Belshazzar when he saw the handwriting on the wall. His enemies took over his country almost immediately. (Read Daniel 1-5 for more details on these stories.) So are you seeing the handwriting on the wall? How close are your enemies?

Prayer ~ Holy Spirit, You gave Daniel an amazing gift because of his obedience. Just as the people of Babylon  addressed their king—O King live forever, may all my family, friends and I address You in such a way. Live forever in our hearts, souls, and minds—giving You the praise and honor for all that You do in our lives--including keeping our enemies away. May we be as obedient as Daniel.
