Samuel had been directed by the Lord to anoint
a new man to be the king of Israel. The Lord even told Samuel to go to a
specific family—Jesse of Bethlehem. But there was a catch, Jesse had eight sons—so
who was it to be? The Lord gives us a great verse in this chapter. But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not
look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected
him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but
the LORD looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7. Look at the heart—not the
outward appearance. Good advice for anyone. We are not to judge others…but it
is so easy to just look at people and do just that…pass judgment. Even Samuel
automatically thought Jesse’s first son was the one—but God said, “No.” The one who was chosen was David, the
youngest son who was out tending family sheep. A handsome, ruddy young man.
This is the one…anoint him. After a history of battling against King Saul, David
did become the king over Israel…and ultimately was in the lineage of Jesus. That
is why Jesus was called the son of David by many who called out to Him for
healing (see Matthew 9:27, Matthew 15:22, Matthew 20:30, Mark 10:47, Luke
18:36). David made some serious mistakes in his life including murder and adultery,
but he was repentant. God accepted David… After
He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He
also testified and said, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My
heart, who will do all My will.' Acts 13:22. So what difference does this
make in our lives? David was a man after God’s own heart and that is how we
should be—repentant and obedient. Can you be like David?
Prayer
~ Holy Spirit, I want to be like David…a person after your heart—one who is not
only repentant, but obedient. Accept my contrite heart and see in me a
willingness to follow Your will for my life. May I be acceptable to You in all
I think, say and do.
Friday’s Feast at the

I’m not one
for using mixes usually…but the cookies made with this cake mix are just
awesome. Hope that you can enjoy some soon…maybe make a batch for your sweetie

Roll into balls, then roll in powdered sugar. Place on cookie sheet about 2
