What are Three Important Promises?

Prayer – Lord, You’ve made a lot of promises…beginning with Adam and Eve. I see the three most important promises as those You made to Abraham, creating Your chosen people; the promise that You will “adopt” those who believe; and that You loved us—mankind—enough to sacrifice Your own Son for our sins. Wonderful covenants—promises that we know You will keep throughout eternity. Thank you for the plan, the promises, and for Your obedience, Jesus. Without You, we are nothing—dust blowing in the wind or clay waiting to be formed into a precious object.

Go to a land I will show you.
The Promised Land - Israel.
Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." Genesis 12:1-3 NKJV

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. Ephesians 1:3-6 NKJV

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. John 3:16-17 NKJV

Meditate on God’s promises.

What are the three most important promises you've made in your life?

Consider God’s promises to Abraham, to those who choose to love God, and to mankind. The Promised Land and Eternal Life—in the ultimate Promised Land, Heaven. God chose to create mankind and to bless us all with His love and grace—unmerited favor. He gives us the opportunity to choose Him as our God, our Lord and our Savior.

Choice is a powerful option in life. Just think of all the choices you make every day from the minute you open your eyes in the morning, until you go to sleep in the evening…or whatever your schedule is. Choice. The pattern of our lives is set into motion with each little choice. When do you choose to read God’s word each day…or do you choose to do that? How will you know God if you don’t read or study His words? I assume because you are even reading this that you have some desire to know and serve our Lord. He loves us all so much—beyond our expectations or imaginations. Love is essential to life. Without love babies die; people commit suicide either intentionally or by just eating too much, becoming obese and harming their bodies; or individual wither away emotionally and spiritually. Books have been written…and are being written…about love—the need for it and lack of it. The greatest sourcebook on love is the Bible. God chose to give mankind, not only His Son, Jesus, but His words through prophets, teachers, kings, priests, doctors, shepherds, fishermen, tax collectors, and ordinary men. We are given an opportunity to understand what God wants for us…His creation…and give us guidance on how God wants us to live in safety with others. Ways to eat and ways to have good relationships with other people.

We can’t see God since He is a spiritual being, but we are His hands and feet to others. We can serve Him by serving others. Jesus was asked about what the greatest commandment is and He replied:

'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' Matthew 22:37-39 NKJV

Love God, love yourself…and love those around you. Three promises you can make to God and yourself.

Do you exercise at least five days a week? Choose today to make a promise…a covenant…with God to read His word daily. Exercise your spiritual being…just as you exercise your physical being.
