Think of Ways to Motivate One Another

Prayer – Lord, with all my heart, I want Your blessing. Open my eyes and mind to understanding Your word, teach me Your ways, and lead me in the path of righteousness using good judgment and knowledge.

Remember your promise to me; it is my only hope. Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles. ...LORD, you are mine! I promise to obey your words! With all my heart I want your blessings. Be merciful as you promised. I pondered the direction of my life, and I turned to follow your laws. I will hurry, without delay, to obey your commands. Evil people try to drag me into sin, but I am firmly anchored to your instructions. I rise at midnight to thank you for your just regulations. I am a friend to anyone who fears you—anyone who obeys your commandments. O LORD, your unfailing love fills the earth; teach me your decrees. You have done many good things for me, LORD, just as you promised. I believe in your commands; now teach me good judgment and knowledge. Psalm 119:49-50, 57-66 (Underlined for emphasis.)

Read all of Psalm 119:49-88. It may look like a long passage, but pray and as you read it pick out the verse that really speaks to you. What words do you see repeated?

Meditate. Consider God’s promises and mercy.

This passage of Psalm 119 covers the five of the letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Words throughout this section that keep repeating are: promise (God’s and mine), revives, comforts, obey, and teach, as well as the concept of laws, commands or commandments, decrees, precepts, ordinances, statues, and God’s word. All of these concepts regard God’s word…and point to God’s Word—Jesus. We cannot have God without knowing God’s Word. Jesus said that the only way to the Father is through knowing Him.

Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

By that He gave us a direct teaching—uncovering a mystery. How do we get to Heaven—to

God? Through Jesus—through the sacrifice of His blood for our sin. We must believe in Jesus as God’s Son, repent, and obediently follow Him.

This passage of scripture gave hope to the psalmist and to the Israelites. As we apply it to our lives it can give each of us hope, too. I love the verse that says God’s promises, His word “revives” me. Revives, physically and spiritually. As I follow and obey God’s teachings I feel awakened—refreshed—revived. It is so easy these days to get down…even to the point of depressed. The COVID pandemic has many people still feeling anxious—but we must remember that God has promised to never leave us or forsake us. He won’t abandon us in the rough times or the good times. The gray days of winter are settling in and those with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) maybe feeling the affects of less light. Experts recommend the best treatment for that is to get out in the natural light early in the morning. Ugh—that is when it is also the coldest! Jesus is the light of the world—let Him shine in your life! Take a verse out into the natural light to light the path for your physical self and for your spiritual being, too. As you walk or jog, think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.

Verse of Salvation ~ I am worn out waiting for your rescue (salvation), but I have put my hope in your word. Psalm 119:81

Memory Verse of the Week ~ Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. Hebrews 10:24
