Praise the LORD!

Prayer – Lord, with all that I am, I praise You—yesterday, today…and forever—joyfully. I realize that every day I need You. You are my creator, my redeemer, my helper, my joy. Still, I need You. Please give me wisdom and as I feel truly blind, open my eyes to Your will and Your ways.

Praise the LORD! Let all that I am praise the LORD. I will praise the LORD as long as I live. I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath. Don't put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them. But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the LORD their God. He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever. He gives justice to the oppressed and food to the hungry. The LORD frees the prisoners. The LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are weighed down. The LORD loves the godly. The LORD protects the foreigners among us. He cares for the orphans and widows, but he frustrates the plans of the wicked. The LORD will reign forever. He will be your God, O Jerusalem, throughout the generations. Praise the LORD! Psalm 146:1-10 (Underlined for emphasis.)

Meditate.  Read God’s word and listen to what He is saying.

The Lord Jesus Christ is my helper…always keeping His promises. His greatest promise—after His promise of obedience to Our Heavenly Father—was to never leave us or forsake us. So many times people praying ask God to be with them. Don’t they realize that He promised that He is always with them! Alternatively, we could ask for wisdom, strength to face problems, open eyes to see and understand, protection, and continued love, although we know He loves us no matter what. We can always sing our praises to Him—for He is our God forever.

Don’t be discouraged in these days after Christmas. We’ve just passed the shortest, and thus darkest, day of the year—but we have the greatest hope for today and for eternal life in Jesus Christ. Hope—in situations that could be overwhelming and disheartening. Ask Jesus to help you…if you find yourself feeling gloomy or just disappointed. We can suffer a type of loss with unmet expectations. Take it to the Lord, asking Him to take your burdens—just as He said.

Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light." Matthew 11:28-30

I’ve experienced giving the Lord my anxieties during this holiday season—and it is wonderful knowing that I have a friend, Jesus, who does just what He says. He took my burden (of trying to do too much) and gave me rest. I didn’t get many Christmas cards sent this year…but I’ll try to send cards to people for the New Year or all during the coming year instead. People still need to know that they are loved and cared for at other times than just Christmas. Jesus has taught me that one thing is important…and that is love. Love God and love one another. Such wisdom from our Savior. Praise the Lord!
