And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for
the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any
sea. Revelation 21:1
As I write this I am sitting in a cozy room
at the beach in Seaside, Oregon. The waves are pounding on the beach—roaring,
continually roaring. I’ve always found it very renewing to come to the ocean…to
any large body of water. The vastness of looking out to the horizon and there
is just water…created by God, in the beginning. I feel His presence—His
renewing presences, grace and love. Years ago when I first read this scripture
passage in Revelation that there would be no sea…no ocean…in Heaven, I was a
bit sad. I get strength, renewal within my very soul from the salt air, the
ocean breeze, and even that continual roar of the waves. Does it mean since
there won’t be a sea in Heaven that I won’t have that opportunity for
renewal? After lots of debate within
myself and prayer for insight I decided that since God is in Heaven, there will
be a constant renewal—no need for a time of retreat to the ocean. For now…I
enjoy this retreat, this renewal, this deep refreshment of my soul.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me…. Psalm 51:10. Renewed and refreshed. How do you find
refreshment for your soul?
Prayer ~ Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits….Psalm 103:1. Lord God--thank you for the oceans and for Your love, renewing my spirit.
