Kindness with Food

The LORD helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads. The eyes of all look to you in hope; you give them their food as they need it. When you open your hand, you satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in everything He does; He is filled with kindness. Psalm 145:14-17

This is so prophetic. Jesus told John’s disciples…"Go back to John and tell him what you have seen and heard—the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor."  Luke 7:22. And then He fed 5,000 and then 4,000 men, plus their families as recorded in Matthew 14 and 15. He opened His hand and gave thanks to the Father for a few loaves of bread and some fish and fed so many people. Truly a miracle.

Jesus is righteous—as recorded by John. My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. 1 John 2:1. He alone is righteous. Although we may strive to live right before God…we can only try…try to be like Jesus. How are you doing with that “trying”?  Once again God rescues us. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins. Romans 3:24.

When we believe in Jesus as our Messiah—our Savior—and repent of our sins, then we are freed from our sin. God sees us as pure as His Son, Jesus. Where do you stand with the Lord? Does God see you blameless, pure and righteous?

Prayer ~ Lord Jesus, may we be as kind and considerate as You, generously giving to those in need. Those in need of food, shelter…prayer and just our attention and time. You gave up so much to give us hope. May those we assist be blessed beyond measure for Your glory.

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table

This is a quick and easy way to perk up some nuts to be served with sweets during the holiday season. Protein helps us assimilate the sugar we eat…so if you are like me and just can’t avoid the sweet treats…have some protein with that fudge or cookies.

Spiced Pecans

2 teaspoon kosher or ground Himalayan salt

½ teaspoon ground cumin

1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

½ teaspoon curry powder

1 teaspoon, heaping, ground cinnamon

Grated orange rind from one orange

2 pound pecan halves

¾ stick unsalted butter (6 tablespoons), cut up into small chunks

½ cups packed brown sugar

1½ tablespoons orange juice (fresh squeezed from the orange used in the grated rind)

Line a sheet pan or a couple of cookie sheets, with parchment paper and set aside.

Mix the salt, cumin, curry, cayenne, cinnamon and orange peel together in a small bowl and set aside.

Place the nuts in a 10-12 inch cast iron skillet and set over low heat. Cook, stirring frequently, for 4 to 5 minutes until they just start to brown and smell toasted. Do NOT let them burn. Add the butter and stir until it melts. Add the spice mixture and stir to combine. Stir sugar into orange juice. Add to the nut mixture, stirring until the mixture thickens and coats the nuts, approximately 2 to 3 minutes.

Transfer the nuts to the prepared sheet pan and separate them with a fork or spatula. Allow the nuts to cool completely before transferring to an airtight container for storage. Can be stored up to 3 weeks.
