SOLD – Human Trafficking Exhibit

O LORD, why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide when I am in trouble?

The wicked arrogantly hunt down the poor. Let them be caught in the evil they plan for others. For they brag about their evil desires; they praise the greedy and curse the LORD. The wicked are too proud to seek God.

They seem to think that God is dead. Yet they succeed in everything they do.

They do not see your punishment awaiting them.

They sneer at all their enemies. They think, "Nothing bad will ever happen to us! We will be free of trouble forever!" Their mouths are full of cursing, lies, and threats. Trouble and evil are on the tips of their tongues.

They lurk in ambush in the villages, waiting to murder innocent people.

They are always searching for helpless victims. Like lions crouched in hiding, they wait to pounce on the helpless. Like hunters they capture the helpless and drag them away in nets. Their helpless victims are crushed; they fall beneath the strength of the wicked.

The wicked think, "God isn't watching us! He has closed his eyes and won't even see what we do!" Arise, O LORD! Punish the wicked, O God! Do not ignore the helpless!

Why do the wicked get away with despising God? They think, "God will never call us to account."

But you see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them.

The helpless put their trust in you.

You defend the orphans.

Break the arms of these wicked, evil people! Go after them until the last one is destroyed.

The LORD is king forever and ever! The godless nations will vanish from the land.

LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless.

Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.

You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them. Psalm 10:1-18

SOLD! We usually think of slavery ending in December 1865 in the United State with the establishment of the Thirteenth Amendment. Although slavery has been abolished in all countries around the world it continues to exist…and provides a lucrative income that drives an insidious network of crime. It isn’t just in cities…it is in small towns, rural and urban areas across America. We hear about children, teens and adults being snatched from their homes, cars and neighborhoods. Fearfully we anticipate that they are taken into slave trafficking.

What can we do? Wisely look to God and pray for His mercy. Surely He will hear their cries and comfort them.  Keep your children and grandchildren secure…and warn them of possibilities. Do not talk to strangers. Trust in the Lord. Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6. Trust and obey. Seek God’s plan…His will and then obey. Obedience is the key. Obey. How are you doing with that? Are you a slave to anything or anyone, except God?

Prayer ~ Lord God, help me to see the souls behind the faces of the exhibit. May I see them the way you do. Have mercy on those who have been snatched from their home, families and workplace. Comfort and strengthen them. Place a hedge of protection around all those I know and love that they would never be taken away from family.

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table

When I was growing up it was a real treat to have pimento cheese. Mom would buy it in those little glass jars that we’d reuse as juice classes. Late this summer I had pimento cheese made in South Carolina, purchased fresh right in the grocery stores. This comfort food was a tasty treat that made me recall those little glass jars. I’ve been experimenting with making my own pimento cheese spread. Here’s a recipe to try the next time you need an appetizer.

Pimento Cheese

½ cup cream cheese, softened

½ cup mayonnaise

1 Tbsp Dijon mustard

1 Tbsp creamy horseradish

½ tsp freshly ground black pepper

1 cup grated pepper jack cheese (or Monterey Jack cheese if you prefer a milder spread)

2 cups grated cheddar cheese

1 - 4 oz. jar of pimentos, drained and chopped
1 Tbsp dill (optional) or 1 tsp paprika (optional)

Mix well cream cheese, mayo, mustard, horseradish and pepper. Stir in grated cheeses, pimento and other desired herbs and spices as desired. Refrigerate for an hour or more before serving. Enjoy with fresh vegetables like celery and red peppers, or with crackers.
