Listen to me; listen, and pay close
attention. Does a farmer always plow and never sow? Is he forever cultivating
the soil and never planting? ... The farmer knows just what to do, for God has
given him understanding. ... The LORD of Heaven's Armies is a wonderful
teacher, and He gives the farmer great wisdom. Isaiah 28:23-24, 26, 29
It is the time of the year for gardeners as
well as farmers to get their seeds and plants into the ground. I planted…and
then replanted after a kiddo thought my raised garden bed was his digging bin.
Oops. Those bean and zucchini sprouts would have never survived to become plants!
Now we’re looking forward to some good zucchini this summer. The farms around
here—many with grape vineyards, apples trees, potatoes, wheat, and corn—are all
green and growing. We’ve had a wet spring for our semi-desert area that usually
gets less than ten inches of rain a year. God provides wisdom and understanding
to the farmers—to water just the right amount—considering the rain, what to
plant and when to plant—and how to care for his crops. Technology has advanced
so much in the past twenty years and computers are an important part of a
farmer’s tool bag. That technology is part of God’s plan. God has a plan for
each of us.
"For I know the plans I have for
you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster,
to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If
you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me." Jeremiah 29:11-13.
Just has He gave and gives wisdom to the
farmers, He will give each of us wisdom…if we pray and ask for it. Pray—He’ll
listen. Look for Him and you will find Him. His promises are as old as the Old
Testament—and as new and fresh as our imaginations can conjure up an image of
the possibilities. Endless. Listen. There is wisdom available for growth…for
each of us and for plants.
Prayer
~ Lord, grant us Your grace and fill us with Your wisdom that we would use the
understanding that You provide to reach others for You.
