So I (Solomon) set out to learn everything from wisdom to madness and folly. But I
learned firsthand that pursuing all this is like chasing the wind. The greater
my wisdom, the greater my grief. To increase knowledge only increases sorrow. Ecclesiastes
1:17-18
Poor Solomon. He wanted wisdom—and got it,
but it added to his grief and sorrow. The more he knew, the more sadness he
could see in the world—and the more he recognized his own short-comings before
the Lord. Riches and wisdom didn’t make him happy. Is “happiness” what you are
searching for in your life? How’s that going?
Solomon recognized that the wicked may get
treated special while good people may be treated unjustly and that people have
the power to harm each other (Ecclesiastes 8:9), but he also advocated good
times. So I recommend having fun, because
there is nothing better for people in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy
life. That way they will experience some happiness along with all the hard work
God gives them under the sun. Ecclesiastes 8:15. Enjoy life. Now that
sounds like wise advice to me! Enjoy your day!
Prayer
~ Lord, help us not to chase after the wind or to be so weighed down with our
day to day earthly tasks that we don’t take time to enjoy life. We appreciate
that You created such a wonderful place for us to live and experience—the beautiful
blue sky, sunshine, trees and flowers blooming…and even the refreshing rain.
You are so good to us. Thank you.
Happy
May Day!
Surprise someone with flowers on their
doorstep.
