Nothing Better Than Good Food

So I decided there is nothing better than to enjoy food and drink and to find satisfaction in work. Then I realized that these pleasures are from the hand of God. For who can eat or enjoy anything apart from Him? Ecclesiastes 2:24-25

We live to eat and eat to live—so we might as well enjoy good food! That includes good beverages, too, although I enjoy sparkling clean, cool water the best of all. Jesus spoke in His Sermon on the Mount about food and drink. Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?' For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things (food, drink and clothes) will be added to you. Matthew 6:31-33 NASB. He provides everything we need. No worries.

Like Solomon, I think that finding work that appeals to you—and gives you satisfaction is important. People who work at jobs for which they have the proper aptitude and that they look forward to every day are really blessed. There is nothing better than that. That is wisdom—that the pleasures we enjoy, food, drink and a good job all come from God. He provides. Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things He does for me. Psalm 103:2.

Prayer ~ I praise You Lord God, for You have given us a desire for good food…and provided that food for us. You are amazing. There are so many good foods—and such a variety that it will take us a lifetime to experience them all. Thank You.

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table
My husband recently brought me a huge bag of some dark chocolate almond bark from Costco. It was delicious—but it didn’t last long. Here is an equally tasty chocolate delicacy.

Dark Chocolate Bark
Dark chocolate is an antioxidant, nuts are high in Omega-3 which is important to heart health, and cherries are known to help against gout and other inflammatory diseases. Enjoy this healthy combination.

1½ cups nuts – your choice of (about 6 ounces) walnut halves, pecans or almonds, chopped or slivered
9 ounces bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
1 cup dried cherries (4 ounces), coarsely chopped
2 tablespoons crystallized ginger, finely chopped or grated with a microplaner

Preheat the oven to 350°. Spread the nuts on a baking sheet and toast for 8 minutes, or until golden and fragrant. Let cool, then coarsely chop.

Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. On the stove using a double boiler pan or in the microwave in a glass bowl at high power in 30-second bursts, stirring frequently. Stir in the nuts, cherries and crystallized ginger until evenly coated. Scrape the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it into a 12-by-8-inch rectangle. Refrigerate for 10 minutes or until firm enough to cut.
Cut the bark into 48 pieces (6 rows by 8 rows) and transfer to a plate. Serve cold or at room temperature.

The bark can be kept in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or refrigerated for up to 2 weeks. Enjoy this healthy food.
