Better to Have Wisdom than Weapons of War

Better to have wisdom than weapons of war, but one sinner can destroy much that is good. Ecclesiastes 9:18

I’m not big on gun or fighting. I’ve been known to get up and leave when my husband is watching a shoot-em-up movie. I can only take just a little blood and brawn. I think that wisdom…some wise words carefully chosen can do a lot more to end a dispute than battling it out with guns…or other weapons of war. God had His people fight so many battles in the Bible—to allow them to cleanse the Promised Land. But even with all their fighting, the battles were not over—never ended.

The wars in the Palestine-Israel area still go on…and on. As I see it, the disputes go back to Abraham and Sarah. Sarah didn’t trust the Lord for her own barren condition to end and gave her handmaid Hagar to Abraham to fulfill God’s promise of a son. Hagar bore a son, Ishmael, who became the father of many nations…Arab nations that fought against the Hebrew nations. War after war. All because of one sinner. Was that sinner Sarah who didn’t trust God to open her womb…or was it Abraham who gave into sleeping with Sarah’s handmaid? Who are we to judge? Their lack of wisdom was the beginning of all Middle Eastern wars…that continue even today. There is no quick fix. Those may be words of wisdom. No quick fix.

Prayer ~ Lord, please give me grace and knowledge to hear Your wisdom when You speak to me. May Your wisdom guide my thoughts, words and actions. Although I’m not in a position like Sarah and Abraham—I need Your guidance because I don’t want to destroy anything—especially anything that is good.

May the people of Israel and the Arab nations surrounding them find peace…even if it is only peace in their hearts…and Jesus as their Messiah.
