Where is the
Holy Spirit in Lamentations? Jeremiah wrote these five poems crying out about
the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple when the Babylonians overtook the
city and took many of the inhabitants into captivity. There is no one to comfort me…. Jeremiah felt that there was no
one to comfort him in his mourning over the loss in Jerusalem. Was the Holy
Spirit comforting him? The LORD'S
lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are
new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. "The LORD is my
portion," says my soul, therefore I have hope in Him." The LORD is
good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him. It is good that he
waits silently for the salvation of the LORD. Lamentations 3:22-26. I think
that the Holy Spirit was comforting Jeremiah. That is one of the jobs—the
responsibilities of the Holy Spirit. To comfort. Like Isaiah…The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me,
for the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to
comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and
prisoners will be freed. Isaiah 61:1 NLT. Have you been “set free” and saved—claimed your
salvation in the Lord? If not—choose today who you will serve…God (Father, Son
& Holy Spirit) or yourself? I chose to serve God.
Prayer
~ Holy Spirit, I praise You and claim the promise that Your compassion is new
every morning. I am greatful forYour lovingkindness to me. It is new every
morning. As I fall asleep…grant me the strength to continue to lift up my
brothers and sisters in the Lord—that they would be blessed—free from pain.
Keep us all in your watchful care.
