I like the idea of being yoked to Jesus. We don’t often see oxen or even
horses yoked together. Maybe that is a common sight in places like India or
parts of Africa—but not in the United States! The idea of yoking two animals
together is smart—they can work more than twice as hard pulling the weight
together. So Jesus in offering to be “yoked” to us is to take our burden—whatever
it is that is weighing us down—and pulling together alongside of us. Alongside.
That reminds me of a young couple at our church who became missionaries to
Kosovo with an organization called Alongside Ministries International. I
didn’t think about it until now…but that is so perfect—Jesus is ministering to
the people there in Kosovo, alongside Jacquelyn and Hasan Bytyqi. As the gentle
and humble spirit of the Lord shines through them, people are learning about
Jesus and growing in their faith. Are you being a missionary where you are? Is
Jesus’ humble and gentle spirit shining through you…and have you allowed Jesus
to be yoked to you?
RSVP: Jesus is inviting us today to be yoked to Him—to learn
from Him and to find rest in our souls. How will you respond to Him today?
Prayer ~ Precious Jesus—lead us along the pathway of
life—yoked to You. Teach us how to share You grace and love with others, not
only during this holiday season—but all year long.
