Do You Hear What I Hear?

At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem; it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple in the portico of Solomon. The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, "How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly." Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father's name, these testify of Me. But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand." John 10:22-28

He told them plainly…but they didn’t hear Him. Weren’t they listening? How often does someone speak to you and you don’t hear them? Or have you ever experienced talking to someone and they don’t hear you—as if you were invisible. There is a rudeness either way. It can be very frustrating not to be heard…and that was very likely what Jesus was experiencing. The Jews had their own agenda and it did not include Jesus as their Messiah—so they didn’t hear what He said. Nor did they see what He did. Actions speak louder than words…but they didn’t believe. Their eyes were blinded…and their ears plugged. They weren’t His sheep—His followers. Do you hear Jesus telling you that He is the Messiah? Have you read and believed that He miraculously healed people? Do you know that He is still saving, healing, protecting, providing, and loving individuals here on earth now—not just 2,000 years ago? Have you heard what I’ve heard?

RSVP: Jesus is inviting you to believe—and if you are a believer, that share Jesus with others. How will you respond to Him today?

Prayer ~ Jesus, mighty Savior, humble Son of God, You are a great leader and we joyously prepare to celebrate Your birth. We—that is my family, friends, and neighbors—hear Your voice as You are our shepherd. May our thoughts, words, and actions be pleasing and acceptable to You.
