September 2 – Live in Security
When
you cross the Jordan and live in the land which the LORD your God is giving you
to inherit, and He gives you rest from all your enemies around you so that you
live in security…. Deuteronomy 12:10
Rest. Ah—rest. Restful security. This is a photo of
a restful tree on a hillside in Israel. Imagine
how the Hebrew people must have felt after wandering in the desert for so
long…a generation longer than they could remember. Now they were going to enter
their beloved “promised” land—the Land of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. God had
just given Moses another set of stones with the same Ten Commandments written on
them—remember Moses had broken the first set when the Israelites were
worshiping the golden calf. In Deuteronomy chapters four through thirty, God
spoke through Moses to give a set of rules and regulations for the Israelites
to follow and to instruct them to be strong, take courage, not be intimidated by
the people of the nations inhabiting the Promised Land. God also gave Moses promises
like this one that they would live in security...and would have a place to worship God.
Training
Tip - Talk with your family about what makes them feel secure. Make a list.
It might include: knowing that you care about them, knowing that you love
them--and others in the family, knowing where you are during the day when they
are in school, knowing God loves them, and knowing that you are praying for
them. Are you praying for them consistently and constantly every day --
with your hands/arms lifted up like Moses?
Lord God, Thank You for the rest and the security
You give us. Help us to be strong, take courage and not be intimidated by our
enemies. We give You the glory and honor for fighting our battles for us.
