Security Through Obedience

Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in sincerity and truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.
If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:14-15

Where do we get our security? Jesus got His security from His Father. God called Him to pray often--and it was in Jesus' obedience that He learned from His Father what to do and say. See John 14:10. With that example in mind--what should we do? Like Jesus. Pray.  Listen. And obey. But what if you don't feel like you have the time--time to read your Bible everyday...time to pray? Can you afford not to do that? Obedience is the key...and in order to  really know to whom we're being obedient (God) and exactly what He wants us to do--we need to be in His Word-- the Bible. Choose today whom you will serve. Your own desires or obedience to God?

Training Tip - With your family make a poster or sign to hang by your front door with the scripture from Joshua 24:15. Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve .... Let the kids help decorate the sign.  As you work together discuss the options of "who" you serve--how you "serve"--and obedience. Proudly hang that sign by your door and as you all come and go remember to remind them of "obedience" including your own obedience to The Lord to pray for family. That should give them a sense of security.

Prayer--Lord God, we praise you for You are worthy of our praise. Help us  in our choices each day that we would choose to be obedient to you.
