People with
initiative will run to the front of a task, recognizing what needs to be done
and do it before being asked to do it. Jesus said that He didn’t do things on
His own initiative, but He always was obedient to do whatever His Father asked
of Him—seeking the Father’s will. We should do the same. For this is the will of My Father, that
everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I
Myself will raise him up on the last day. John 6:40. Believe. Have
faith in Jesus, in God. It may seem like a simple thing to do. Believe. But
some people just can’t seem to do that. We have to surrender our will…like
Jesus, not seeking our own will…and do the will of the Father. Believe. Have
faith that Jesus IS the Son of God—He IS God.
Training Tip – How do you instill in your children the “I wanna…”
so that they want to do something before
they are asked to do it? First and probably foremost is your own example. Good
work ethics must be encouraged…possibly rewarded so that they will develop the
habit of doing something when asked, and then eventually do it because it is
expected…and then because it is their responsibility. Start with a task like
setting the table every evening for dinner…soon they know that that is expected
and ask them to do it every day, rewarding them if they do it without being
asked. Rewards can be an extra hug or time doing something together—not always
money or a treat. Help them to believe in Jesus, the same way… searching for
the truth—and finding it in Jesus, our creator, savior, and friend.
Lord God, You are awesome and we praise You for
being our God, our Creator, and our Savior. Instill in us that “I wanna…” to
live to please You in all that we do. Like the man whose son was demon
possessed and healed by Jesus…"I do believe; help my unbelief."
Mark 9:24.
