Prayer
– Lord, You are Good—the ultimate goodness. Refresh my heart, Holy Spirit, that
I others would receive more of the goodness of the Lord in me. May I grow in His
grace and mercy as I seek and serve Him.New Life in Goodness
But
the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and
self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5:22-23 NLT
Meditate.
Consider goodness.
Who is
good, but God alone, as illustrated in this conversation with Jesus.
As Jesus was starting out on his
way to Jerusalem, a man came running up to him, knelt down, and asked,
"Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" "Why do
you call me good?" Jesus asked. "Only God is truly good. Mark 10:17-18 NLT (Underlined for
emphasis.)
Moses
wanted to know more of God…and His goodness. He spoke to God during the journey
to the Promised Land. Read about Moses and the goodness of God in Exodus.
One day Moses said to the LORD,
"You have been telling me, 'Take these people up to the Promised Land.'
But you haven't told me whom you will send with me. You have told me, 'I know
you by name, and I look favorably on you.' If it is true that you look
favorably on me, let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and
continue to enjoy your favor. And remember that this nation is your very own
people." The LORD replied, "I will personally go with you, Moses, and
I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you." ... The LORD
replied to Moses, "I will indeed do what you have asked, for I look
favorably on you, and I know you by name." Moses responded, "Then
show me your glorious presence." The LORD replied, "I will make all
my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, Yahweh, before
you. For I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to
anyone I choose. But you may not look directly at my face, for no one may see
me and live." Exodus
33:12-14, 17-20 NLT (Underline emphasis.)
God alone
in good, yet one part of the fruit of the Spirit—into which we can grow is
goodness. It is not instantaneously given to us, but it one in which we grow as
we mature in Christ. Are you maturing and growing in Christ in this attribute of
goodness?
Verse
of Salvation ~ God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take
credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good
things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God's
masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good
things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians
