Do You Want to be a Survivor?

Prayer – Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Psalm 139:23-24. I want to be a survivor for You…not just one playing a game here on earth. 

"What sorrow awaits my rebellious children," says the LORD. "You make plans that are contrary to mine. You make alliances not directed by my Spirit, thus piling up your sins." Isaiah 30:1

Do you want to be a survivor for God or TV?

Are you forming healthy alliances with godly plans? It sounds like something out of a “Survivors” TV show—forming healthy alliances. Have you ever watched that program series? Every week the contestants are plotting to form alliances with their teammates, to find a hidden idol, and to do immunity challenges that are way beyond my skill level. There is often a rebellious individual that just can’t seem to conform to their teammates’ plans and thus they end up getting voted off the team and the program. The winner of the game show, which takes place in 26 days (39 days pre-COVID) on a remote Fuji island, gets two million dollars. That is a lot of money, but consider that they are actually surviving for almost a month in primitive conditions with little food and doing strenuous physical challenges, and that there are thousands who apply to be cast into the role of participant, so it is a highly valued prize that contestants are willing to play hard to get. Only sorrow awaits those who are rejected by their teammates.

Does rejection sound familiar? Those survivor participants who are rejected are like people who turn their backs on God—on the very Savior of the world, Jesus Christ. God’s chosen people in the land of Judah (southern nation of the divided Israel) didn’t follow God’s plans, but their own. Is it that way in your life? Do you search for God’s plan for survival in your life…or are you searching for adventure and lots of cash winnings like those on the Survivor game show?
