Bring Good News to the Brokenhearted

Prayer – Holy Spirit, You are amazing, awesome and astounding. You have anointed countless people throughout the ages…including Jesus. May Your Spirit rest within the hearts of those who read this that they would be drawn to You—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—that they would believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Heal our hearts. Comfort those who mourn.

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me, for the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the LORD's favor has come, and with it, the day of God's anger against their enemies. Isaiah 61:1-2

Meditate. Comfort the broken hearted.

This Old Testament declaration of the Spirit of the Lord was on the prophet Isaiah for the purpose of assisting the "poor" in spirit, including the broken hearted and imprisoned. The Good News to the poor is God's Love for mankind. That was message of freedom—love—that Isaiah preached...and that Jesus not only proclaimed but provided by dying on the cross for our sins. The true love. Think about that. Thinking is a keystone to our spiritual freedom—to taking control of our spiritual development—and to relationships with other people and with God: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The Spirit of the Lord was on the Lord Jesus Christ! At the beginning of His ministry in the synagogue in Nazareth, He read this text from Isaiah 61, as recorded in Luke 4. He stopped reading after… to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor, since that was what He came to do…the vengeance part comes later with His second coming.  Jesus was so focused and obedient. He did just what the Father told Him to do.

Peace and Salvation
So Jesus said, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me. And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him."  John 8:28-29.

Jesus spoke whatever the Father told Him to do…and did what was pleasing to His Father. Do we do that?

Verse of Salvation ~ How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns!
Isaiah 52:7
