Are You Filled with Power?

Prayer – Lord, I acknowledge that all power comes from You—glory, honor, and power. Your power isn;t like Superman's strength--but even better. Thank you for protecting us and providing us with Your wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.

But as for me, I am filled with power—with the Spirit of the LORD. I am filled with justice and strength to boldly declare Israel's sin and rebellion.  Micah 3:8

Meditate. Power of the Holy Spirit.

Who is Micah anyway? According to my NASB Ryrie Study Bible, Micah, whose name means “who is like Yahweh?” prophesied to the people of Judah at about the same time as Isaiah spoke to those in Jerusalem, and Hosea preached to the northern tribes in Israel. All of the prophets were dealing with God’s people not following His commandments, primarily those who were worshipping idols—but also dealing with adultery issues. Sin and rebellion are still issues today—not just in the Israelites, but in all of mankind.

Micah wrote about Jesus’ first and second comings. God spoke through Micah…and the people of Israel answered. The classic verse below tells us what God expects of us. It is worth noting…and memorizing if you have not done that.

O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

Do you do those things…do what is right, love mercy, and to walk humbly with God? He gives it to us straight…no options or second choices. He expects us to do what is right…and in His commandments He tells us just what those “right actions” are. Mercy is best described as lovingkindness, being gracious, showing kindness, and a quality of God associated with forgiveness  Micah was filled with the power of the Holy Spirit as he humbly set about to do good—just what God had told him to do. The Israelites need to be reminded that God wanted obedience, not sacrifices. God treasures relationships with mankind…and hopes for that same desire to be in people’s hearts—a relationship with Him. Micah expresses this later in the short book when he says:

The Lord will bring me into the light, and I will see his righteousness. Micah 7:9b

Although Jesus was not known at that time…He is the light of the world. When we see Him at work in our lives…and the lives of those around us…we see His righteousness. As we build a relationship with Him, we bridge the gap between darkness and light…and come fully into an illuminated and inspired life that only the Son of God can provide. All of that is powered by the Holy Spirit—just as Jesus promised. Are you filled with the Holy Spirit?

Verse of Salvation ~ As for me, I look to the Lord for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me. Micah 7:7
