Are Your Family or Friends Afraid of Your Disease?

Prayer – Lord, germs and virus bugs seem to be the enemies of us all. Protect us from these unseen critters that we wouldn’t experience any raging fevers, or festering wounds like David did. Give each of us renewed wisdom and understanding that we would make good decisions and live in a way that pleases You—sharing and showing Your love to others.

O LORD, don't rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your rage! Your arrows have struck deep, and your blows are crushing me. Because of your anger, my whole body is sick; my health is broken because of my sins. My guilt overwhelms me—it is a burden too heavy to bear. My wounds fester and stink because of my foolish sins. I am bent over and racked with pain. All day long I walk around filled with grief. A raging fever burns within me, and my health is broken. I am exhausted and completely crushed. My groans come from an anguished heart. You know what I long for, Lord; you hear my every sigh. My heart beats wildly, my strength fails, and I am going blind.

My loved ones and friends stay away, fearing my disease. Even my own family stands at a distance. Meanwhile, my enemies lay traps to kill me. Those who wish me harm make plans to ruin me. All day long they plan their treachery. But I am deaf to all their threats. I am silent before them as one who cannot speak. I choose to hear nothing, and I make no reply. For I am waiting for you, O LORD. You must answer for me, O Lord my God. I prayed, "Don't let my enemies gloat over me or rejoice at my downfall." I am on the verge of collapse, facing constant pain. But I confess my sins; I am deeply sorry for what I have done. I have many aggressive enemies; they hate me without reason. They repay me evil for good and oppose me for pursuing good. Do not abandon me, O LORD. Do not stand at a distance, my God. Come quickly to help me, O Lord my savior. Psalm 38:1-22

Meditate. Focus on the Lord as your Savior.

Everyone stays away. Did David have some plague or Covid? Ha! He was telling God that he was in constant pain—nearly collapsing. He repented of his sin—sorry that he had chosen to do the wrong thing—and now his enemies were attacking him because he was doing the right thing. Will God rescue him? Of course, He will. Will it be quickly? Just like David, we can call out to God for help. He hears us because He is always awake and attentive. Where I live, we have mountains nearby…but they are actually just big hills, not the really rugged peaks of true mountains. Even those hills are reminders that God is in control—He made everything and He is always willing and able to help me, my family, friends, and neighbors.

Mt. Rainier
I look up to the mountains...
does my help come from there?

I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. Psalm 121:1-4

We can count on God to hear our prayers. He won’t turn His back on us or abandon us—like some might even if we have some dreaded disease. God is not afraid of disease. Are your family and friends afraid of your disease?

Verse of Salvation ~ I say to myself, "The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!" The LORD is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him. So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the LORD. Lamentations 3:24-26

Memory Verse of the Week ~ "You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:14
