Why Would I Sing Praises to God?

Prayer – Lord, You are awesome. I sing praises to You…and listen for the sound of the Trumpets. Please give me wisdom and understanding as I seek to honor You. Open my mind and heart to understand Your word.

Come, everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! For the LORD Most High is awesome. He is the great King of all the earth. He subdues the nations before us, putting our enemies beneath our feet. He chose the Promised Land as our inheritance, the proud possession of Jacob's descendants, whom he loves. God has ascended with a mighty shout. The LORD has ascended with trumpets blaring. Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises! For God is the King over all the earth. Praise him with a psalm. God reigns above the nations, sitting on his holy throne. The rulers of the world have gathered together with the people of the God of Abraham. For all the kings of the earth belong to God. He is highly honored everywhere. Psalm 47:1-9

Meditate. Listen for the sound of the trumpet—the wail of the shofar horn.

It isn’t long until the Feast of Trumpets—one of the great Jewish festivals. It is the first of the fall festivals. It commemorates the creation of the world and is the start of the New Year on the Jewish calendar, or Rosh Hashanah. See Leviticus 23:23-25 and Numbers 29:1-6. This year it begins at sunset on September 25, continuing to sunset on September 27. The sound of the trumpet, blown 100 times, is a reminder that God calls His people to repent. The Feast of Trumpets is followed by ten days, Days of Awe, of repentance and introspection. The Feast of Trumpets and Yom Kippur, that occurs immediately after the Days of Awe, are considered High Holy days for the Jews. Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement, when Jews ask for forgiveness from God and others. That day ends joyously celebrating that their sins are forgiven, and their names are inscribed in the Book of Life for another year. This year Yom Kippur is celebrated on October 4-5, 2022. Prophesy predictors are saying that these coming dates are very significant. God didn’t write prophesy in the Bible for us to ignore, but He also didn’t give us a specific calendar saying exact day of Christ Jesus’ return or the rapture for a reason. Do you think people would procrastinate until the last minute to accept Jesus as their Savior if they knew the day and the hour of His return? Sure, they would. As it is God is waiting for people’s response.

The Lord isn't really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. 2 Peter 3:9

Repent and be saved. Now is a time to give glory…and sing. To sing praises to God! To sing praises to our King! Give Him glory. Is He your King and Savior? If not, seek Him today.

Can you worship the Lord by a river.?
By the headwaters of the Jordan River?
When we were restricted from attending church in person, during COVID, it was difficult to truly worship. Oh sure, we attended church via Facebook or YouTube, but it wasn’t as worshipful as corporate worship in person. There is something to be said about true worship before the Lord in a place of worship. Although some people say they can worship God anywhere—and I do think it is possible—do people actually stop and worship God when they are out in nature hiking or even boating? I have prayed, sang hymns and choruses, and felt the presence of God outside of a worship service in a church—but lifting up my hand and praising the Lord is a deeply moving experience in God’s house. I look forward to the day when I can worship Him in person—face to face. For now, I’ll listen for the sound of the trumpet, intentionally and joyfully worshiping Him day by day…moment by moment…not just on Sunday in a designated building. I want to honor God as I sing praises to Him.

Verse of Salvation ~ Come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Psalm 95:1

Memory Verse of the Week ~ In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:16

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table

Summer is over…fall has begun with the equinox today and the traditional first day of fall as September 21st. Check with Google for details.

Watermelon season is over—and we enjoyed some great melons the last few weeks from our local Farmer’s Market. What should I do with the melon I still have, I wondered on this crisp fall day? It just isn't appealing cold. Maybe I could cook up some melon soupji? So, here’s a simple soup I tried.

Hot Melon Soup
2 cup honeydew melon, cut into one-inch chunks, with skin and seeds removed
1 cup leftover cooked rice
¼ cup kimchee, or more to taste

Heat the melon chunks in a small sauce pan to boiling, add the rice. Gently stir. Pour into one large bowl to serve one person or divide between two medium b I will certainly continue  owls to serve two people. Add the kimchee. More, or less, as you desire. Enjoy.

Note: You can add any other soft fruits like peaches, nectarines, mangoes, or ripe pears to this fruity soup. I was surprised to find lots of hot melon recipes out on the internet. There are some that would be tasty like the Chinese melon soup recipes that call for cooked spareribs, dried fish, red dates, and goji berries along with a winter melon. There may be some more melon soups on my table this fall. I will certainly continue to sing praises to the Lord for the variety of foods He created
