Meditate.
"Now go and say to my servant David, 'This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies has declared: I took you from tending sheep in the pasture and selected you to be the leader of my people Israel.' 2 Samuel 7:8
God spoke through His prophet
Nathan about David. God recognized David as leader of Israel, but declared that
David wouldn’t build a Temple—a home for God—but that his son, Solomon, would
build the Temple. Then David spoke directly to God in response.
"And now, O LORD God, I am your servant; do as you
have promised concerning me and my family. Confirm it as a promise that will
last forever. And may your name be honored forever so that everyone will say,
'The LORD of Heaven's Armies is God over Israel!' And may the house of your
servant David continue before you forever. O LORD of Heaven's Armies, God of
Israel, I have been bold enough to pray this prayer to you because you have revealed
all this to your servant, saying, 'I will build a house for you—a dynasty of
kings!' For you are God, O Sovereign LORD. Your words are truth, and you have
promised these good things to your servant." 2 Samuel 7:25-28
Declaring himself to be a servant
of the Lord, I was impressed with how humble David is towards God. He was definitely
a man after God’s own heart as he declared that the LORD of Heaven’s Armies
is God over Israel. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies…the Lord of Hosts. A host
is an organized army…the angels in Heaven. David became a powerful ruler of
Israel because God was with him.
Escavation and Rubble of the City of David
Israel
David made the fortress his home, and that is why it is
called the City of David. He extended the city from the supporting terraces to
the surrounding area, while Joab rebuilt the rest of Jerusalem. And David
became more and more powerful, because the LORD of Heaven's Armies was with
him. 1 Chronicles 11:7-9
Jehovah Sabaoth—the Lord of Hosts—is the existing one true God. Imagine God with His organized armies of angels in Heaven—fighting for you. How is your relationship today with this mighty God?
Prayer ~ Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens! Praise him from the skies! Praise him, all his angels! Praise him, all the armies of heaven! Praise him, sun and moon! Praise him, all you twinkling stars! Praise him, skies above! Praise him, vapors high above the clouds! Let every created thing give praise to the LORD, for he issued his command, and they came into being. Psalm 148:1-5. I praise You, Lord of Hosts—Jehovah Sabaoth. You are an awesome and powerful God—You are my God. Like David, I worship and adore You.
Verses of Salvation ~ Since God
in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom,
he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. It is foolish to
the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who
seek human wisdom. So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are
offended and the Gentiles say it's all nonsense. But to those called by God
to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom
of God. This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans,
and God's weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength. 1
